The opinion of which improv/acting training and performance style is superior varies from city to city, company to company and troupe to troupe. In SEI “STYLES” each class section focuses on a different approach, theory, system and method of finding your way to successful, fulfilling and often hilarious improvised performances. As different at Chicago deep-dish pizza, a real New Yawk slice and whatever ketchup on a cracker they’re serving in California, these teaching and performing techniques were all developed by comedic geniuses whose work is has stood the test of time. Who’s got the best flavor? You decide… or better yet belly up the improv buffet and enjoy some of each.

Session: Winter 1 (Saturdays, 11am -1pm, Feb 18th – March 24th) Based on the advanced acting techniques pioneered by Constantine Stanislavsky this class is scene study for long-form Improvisers. Using advanced stage and film acting techniques, this class will teach improvisers how to have a more focused and fulfilling performance experience. From intense voice and movement warm-ups, to literally using the skills actors utilize to analyze scripts… that's right, script analysis for improvisers! How does that work? Session: Spring 1 (Saturdays, 11am -1pm, April 7th – May 12th) If Chicago is the frontier of American long-form improv let’s discover some of its pioneers. Championed by Del Close and Charna Halpern this class takes us from the advanced Harold straight through the innovations of the some the most influential comedic minds of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Session: Spring 2 (Saturdays, 11am -1pm, May 26th June 30th) This class will instruct and encourage the long-form improvisation student to create strong foundations, quickly discover & explore patterns, heighten/entwine ideas, themes, schemes and characters as well as fully comprehend the true power of run-on sentences.

Session: Summer (Saturdays, 11am -1pm, July 7th – August 11th) So… you’ve been RUNNING down the road trying to loosen your load… got a world of trouble on your mind… you may lose but you may win though you will NEVER be (in that scene) again so open up, and climb on in, and take it easy. During the dog days of summer it might be a good idea to learn the importance of patience and control in your work. This class gives you the freedom to let you come to your senses, you been out ridin' fences for so long now. It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you. You better let somebody love you, before it's too late… oh and don't live life in the fast lane!
