How to Play on a Harold Team

How to Play on a Harold Team

In 1972, a crack comedy commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Chicago and NYC undergrounds. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you think you have what it takes maybe you can JOIN… The H-Team.

If chosen for a team, you will have the opportunity to perfect your Harold skills through Search Engine Improv coaches that have learned directly from the best like iO and UCB teachers Charna Halpern, Matt Besser, Horatio Sanz, TJ Jagadowski, and Jimmy Carrane to name just a few.

Being picked for a Harold Team will give you the opportunity to rehearse and perform regularly giving your team a chance to develop a unique take on this seminal form.

In addition, although coaches will make all artistic and personnel decisions, SEI Harold teams will be encouraged to play wherever they choose (outside of the scheduled Harold Night) as well as keep any money they make from those shows (that's right, you can actually make money as an improviser)! Your coaches will also help with this as needed. The teams will have their own independence: we're just trying to help things get going!

WHAT KIND OF PERSON SHOULD/CAN PLAY?

Anyone wishing to perform on a Search Engine Improv Harold team should get in touch or fill out the interest form at the bottom on this page. Yes. Anyone.

While training often helps, some folks end up playing without much experience other than seeing a few Harolds first themselves. Some people have a knack for doing this kind of thing and might have great intuitions right off the bat, so if you're thinking about coming out, just do it!  If you have questions, contact us, as we'd be happy to connect with you.

HAROLD TEAM PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES

At Search Engine Improv we're dedicated to treating you like professionals. We encourage you to be involved with as many things as you can but also expect you to attend all of your team's rehearsals and shows you commit to. We also realize that you are real people with lives outside of improv and understand that conflicts happen. All we ask is that you communicate with your team captain or coach when conflicts occur. With that said, if you are selected to be on an SEI Harold team, you are expected and required to meet the following conditions:

1) Attend one rehearsal ranging from two to three hours per week (tbd once teams are put together).

2) Perform in bi-monthly "Harold Night" shows (that's two per month) currently scheduled for Wednesday evenings.

3) Pay coaching fees of $5 per rehearsal (per actor) directly to your coach through a team captain.

4) Your team is required to book its own rehearsal space. Space is available at The Space for $10 per hour (or wherever it is convenient for players and coach).
